Roofing brand profiles for Quebec

In Quebec, a roofing profile has two extra jobs: show the RBQ licence that buyers are told to check, and present everything in French for Quebec customers. Done well, both become trust signals.

Written by Ali Sedighi, MBALast updated:

Quebec is Canada's second-largest roofing market, centred on Montréal, Québec City, Laval, Gatineau and Longueuil, with Sherbrooke, Lévis and Saguenay as important regional markets. Two features set Quebec apart for a roofing brand profile: the licence system run by the Régie du bâtiment du Québec, and the province's French-language rules for commercial communication. Handled well, both make your profile more trustworthy, not less.

The Quebec roofing buyer

  • Montréal and Laval. Dense, with a lot of flat and low-slope roofing on plexes and multi-unit buildings, as well as pitched roofs in the suburbs. Buyers include many small landlords and condo syndicates who want proof of licence and coverage.
  • Québec City and Lévis. A large market with a strong habit of checking contractors before hiring.
  • Gatineau. Close to Ottawa, with buyers who may compare Quebec and Ontario roofers. Your profile should be clear about where you're licensed to work.
  • Regional cities. In Sherbrooke and Saguenay, local reputation and reviews carry a lot of weight.

Climate and seasonality

Snowy, cold winters are the norm across Quebec, and the cold season runs longest once you leave the St. Lawrence lowlands. For roofers, the snow load and freeze-thaw cycles concentrate replacement work into the warmer months, while winter brings repair and ice-related calls. Profiles should be finished and translated before the spring rush.

The RBQ licence: your strongest credential

Doing construction work for someone else in Quebec, or arranging for it to be done, generally calls for an RBQ licence carrying the right subclasses, with limited exemptions. The RBQ also publishes guidance for homeowners on choosing a contractor, which encourages checking a licence before hiring.

That makes the licence the anchor of a Quebec credentials page. Show it clearly, with the subclasses that apply to your work, and link buyers to the RBQ so they can check it.

Workers in Quebec's construction industry also need competency certification from the CCQ. If your crew holds certificates, list them accurately.

We summarise and link only. Confirm your own obligations with the RBQ and CCQ.

French-language requirements

Quebec's Charter of the French Language, as amended by Bill 96, expects French to dominate clearly in commercial advertising, and a website or social feed aimed at Quebec buyers has to exist in French. A further change took effect on 2025-06-01: a business name or trademark in another language, shown on the outside of premises, now needs accompanying French wording. The OQLF explains the rules for businesses.

For a roofing profile, that means the owner story, credentials page, warranty page, proof pack and review request templates all need French versions. English can sit alongside for customers who prefer it.

Programs, as of October 2026

Quebec's main energy programs, such as Hydro-Québec's LogisVert and the government's Rénoclimat, focus on heating and energy efficiency, not roofing, and their terms are changing. We don't build roofing profiles around them. If your company also does qualifying envelope work, check each program's current rules directly.

Translation done properly

A good French profile isn't a machine translation of the English one. Roofing terms, warranty language and review request wording should read naturally to Quebec buyers. We plan the French version from the start and have it reviewed before it goes live.

How we'd approach a Quebec roofing profile

  1. Anchor on the RBQ licence. Make it visible and checkable.
  2. Write in French first. Translate with care, using the terms Quebec buyers actually use for roofing work.
  3. Explain both warranties in French. See warranty pages.
  4. Use French review requests. Same neutral wording, same rules. See review strategy.
  5. Serve plex owners and syndicates. An estimate proof pack that a condo board can circulate saves time.

Frequently asked questions

Should our RBQ licence number be on the website?

It's a strong trust signal because the RBQ encourages people to check a contractor's licence before hiring. Whether and how you display it is your call; confirm any display rules with the RBQ.

Can our profile be in English only?

Not for Quebec buyers. The Charter of the French Language requires French to lead in commercial advertising, and Quebec-facing websites and social content need a French version. English can sit beside it. The OQLF has the details.

Do Google reviews work the same way in Quebec?

Yes. Google's review policies apply everywhere, and Canada's anti-spam law applies to review requests sent by text or email. Your request templates should simply be in French, with English available for customers who prefer it.
